Custom Internet radio provider Pandora notified users outside of the U.S. by email today, informing them that they will begin blocking their IP addresses.
Pandora has always made it clear that the site is only available to listeners in the U.S. however this was easily bypassed by entering a valid U.S. zip code. Pandora users will continue to find ways to bypass the new IP blocking restrictions, however many users will find it simpler to switch to one of the other similar services still available such as last.fm.
Alexa is showing that over half the site’s users are currently outside the U.S., with less than 1% currently from Australia. The email to users announces that Pandora will continue to try and reach agreements in countries outside the United States. With such a small percentage of users, Australia would almost certainly not be on the top of the list.
